How AI and automation could impact HR Payroll processes

In the digital age, HR functions are evolving rapidly, and generative AI is playing a central role in this transformation. It's not just about streamlining processes: it's about redefining how we manage, engage, and develop talent within organizations.
At Qolaig, we take pride in staying at the forefront of advances in generative AI and automation.
Within large enterprises, many processes continue to be carried out manually. HR teams could see their productivity significantly boosted through the combination of AI and automation on repetitive tasks, such as managing employee payroll.
"At the end of each performance cycle, HR teams spend a huge amount of time reviewing team performance with managers and defining the right merit increases and bonuses.", explains David Yana, HR Director at Chanel.
He adds: "The new salaries and bonuses to be paid are entered manually by HRBPs into the HRIS (Human Resources Information System). From November to February, the HR department exclusively handles all the associated processes (consolidation, presentations, letters, etc.), a repetitive and manual process that recurs every year in every company. AI and automation could play a decisive role in the productivity of HR teams."
Digging into this topic of payroll automation, for large enterprises that don't use many tools outside of their HRIS to manage their HR activities, one can imagine an automated workflow that would automatically populate the HRIS for each employee's merit increase and bonus.
Since the process is rule-based for non-executive employees once the decision has been made, the automated workflow would work as follows:
- Extract data from the HRIS corresponding to the employees concerned
- On an Excel spreadsheet where HR manually enters the corresponding increase for each employee
- Automatically feed the increase from the spreadsheet back into the HRIS, using AI
- Prepare presentation templates for HRBPs for compensation committees
- Prepare checklists and corrections following adjustments decided during committees
Once again, this type of workflow is just one example among many possible use cases for AI and automation for HR teams within companies.
At Qolaig, our role is to democratize the power of AI and automation, helping companies leverage these technologies and supporting them in implementing these use cases.
